mIRC was created by Khaled Mardam-Bey, a Jordanian-born British programmer. He began developing the software in late 1994, and released its first version on 28 February 1995.

  • mIRC 5.91 is the final version to support 16-bit Windows
  • mIRC 6.35 supports Windows 95, NT 4.0, 98, and ME.
  • mIRC 7.75 is the latest version as of 2023
  • mIRC is not open source is is not free (it is trialware)

As of 2002 the mIRC release is shareware meaning that after the 30 day free trial period you will be prompted to pay for it. If you don't, while mIRC won't stop working (aka it's not crippleware), you're technically using it illegally. mIRC is free to use for 30 days, after which you will need to pay a one-time fee of $20 to register the software. mIRC can be downloaded freely and evaluated for up to 30 days. If after evaluating mIRC you find that you like it and wish to continue using it, you will need to register mIRC.

Scripting

mIRC has a powerful scripting language that can be used both to automate mIRC and to create applications that perform a wide range of functions from network communications to playing games.
